(240K) QuickTimeVR image of the first whitewater action on the Appomattox river after having portaged the dam on the right side. This is a cool QuickTimeVR image because you can see the whitewater rapids and the canal that was built in the late 1700's to bypass the rapids. The canal was enlarged in the 1930's to supply water to a VEPCO power station several miles down river from this point.
